By the time HOSPIMedica THAILAND had concluded on September 14, some 3,800 trade visitors and industry professionals from 52 countries had passed through the doors at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.  Approximately 80% of visitors were from the host nation, reflecting Thailand’s emergence as a global hub for medical tourism. Furthermore, 55.7% of show visitors indicated they attended HOSPIMedica THAILAND in order to learn about new developments, highlighting the increasingly advanced needs of the healthcare industry in Thailand and the region in general.

A total of 250 exhibitors from 24 countries participated in HOSPIMedica THAILAND including eight national groups from Austria, Belgium, China, Germany, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. HOSPIMedica THAILAND Showcase the Latest in Medical & Hospital Solutions and Tools

Some 250 exhibiting companies from 25 countries will offer insights into factors that are driving the changes to the medical and health care landscape.  HOSPIMedica THAILAND promises visitors a wealth of new technologies, products and solutions on show at what has developed into “the” premier event for the hospital and medical sector in Indochina region and beyond. A virtual Who’s Who of the hospital, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medical and rehabilitation equipment and supplies segments promises to bring to the exhibition a high-tech range of offerings that will provide industry players with food for thought as they seek to differentiate and become more competitive in the dynamic healthcare sector.

Take Schumetzberger a well-known global company that specializes in pneumatic tube systems (PTS) combining state of the art technology with reliability. The system can be used in modern hospitals where capsules containing blood samples, drugs and medicine, X-ray images and documents, are delivered through a tube network with stations for transmitting and receiving. Benefits include no cost-incurring errands, staff being able to dedicate themselves to their job, and enabling centralisation of laboratories, blood banks, and pharmaceutical storage. Restricted access to the transported load can be secured by means of code, and the system is hermetically sealed, with carriers being leak-resistant. Intelligent management of empty carriers is also featured based on carrier ID-numbers and software. PTS can be easily installed in new and existing buildings.

A more local highlight is the WINNER “ultimate portable power wheelchair” from Lifeline, which was developed by SP Care of Singapore Polytechnic. A new control algorithm improves the maneuverability of the WINNER, which is powered using state-of-the-art hub motors. The built-in electromechanical brakes concealed in the hubs of the wheels simplify the mechanical structure and reduce the overall weight of the wheelchair. The unique circuit topology and state-of-the-art power MOSFET in the controller also significantly reduces the loss of power when the WINNER is at the high-power stage. Switching from driving mode to pushing mode is simple at the touch of a button without having to manually disengage the brakes. Lifeline is seeking interested parties for distribution of the WINNER wheelchair.

OCTOBER 2006

  • Thailand on the Fast Track in Healthcare
  • Medical Tourism – given an big boost in Asia
  • Timely staging of medical showcase
HOSPIMedica THAILAND will be back for the 3rd time in Bangkok. It will be held from 12 to 14 September 2007 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).

HOSPIMedica THAILAND 2007 is projected to be bigger and better in 2007 because the race is on to get Thailand on the fast track to becoming the “Healthcare Hub of Asia” by 2010.  This is the healthcare strategy of the Thai government and major players in the sector. The healthcare market in Thailand has grown in overall value terms by around 14 percent in 2005.  In early 2006, the Ministry proposed an investment plan for National Health System Development 2006-2009.  As it is Thailand imports more than 80 percent of the country’s medical equipment for the health industry. The main suppliers for these products are the USA, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The medical equipment and supplies market in the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to grow by 30 percent to a value of approximately USD 43 billion by 2010.  Foreign investors are witnessing a healthy pace of socio-economic development particularly in Southeast Asia.  The healthcare industry stands to benefit significantly from these investments as well as in the advancement of health care standards.
